It is a fact that all whale watch boats do not go to the same place to watch the humpback, and finback whales that migrate north off the coast of Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine. This is due to the simple fact that all whale watch boats cannot make the same speed. The M/V Atlantic Queen II is the only whale watch vessel in Rye Harbor, New Hampshire, that has the ability to reach Jeffrey's Ledge or the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary in a half day trip.

  • FAST - We get you to the whales quickly
  • ROOMY - The Atlantic II Queen is 80' long
  • CLEAN - With an experienced captain & crew
  • COAST GUARD CERTIFIED - For up to 100 miles off shore
  • EXPERIENCED NATURALIST on board
  • LARGE, ENCLOSED CABIN
  • FULL GALLEY - Sandwiches, drinks, snacks
  • GUARANTEED SIGHTINGS! - You will see whales or get a free ticket to come again

Our trips feature expert commentary by naturalists/researchers from Blue Ocean Society for Marine Conservation (www.blueoceansociety.org), a Portsmouth, NH-based non-profit organization whose staff have been conducting educational programs and studying local whales since 1996.  Trips provide an invaluable opportunity to collect data on local whale populations, and Blue Ocean Society maintains a catalog of local fin and humpback whales, so they can often tell you plenty about a sighted whale's history!

As we look for whales, there's plenty to do!

  • Learn about and touch real whale artifacts such as baleen and bones
  • Ask the naturalists your questions
  • Listen to real whale sounds
  • Investigate the many displays we have onboard and learn about the Gulf of Maine and how to protect the marine environment
  • Peruse our "Whale Watcher's Handbook," learn about current events in the marine world, or read Blue Ocean Society's latest newsletter
  • Discuss whale research techniques and watch researchers collecting data and taking identification photos

“We at Blue Ocean Society endorse Atlantic Fishing and Whale Watching because they have an experienced captain (Capt. Brad has been driving boats around whales for 40 years!) who respects whales and follows whale watching guidelines issued by the National Marine Fisheries Service.  We are grateful to them for supporting our mission and happy to be aboard to provide the educational program!”

- Blue Ocean Society Director & Co-founder, Jennifer Kennedy

In addition to working aboard the Atlantic Queen, BOS also offers educational programs about our local marine life, and conducts important conservation work such as beach cleanups, cutting-edge marine pollution research and other pollution prevention programs.
